ESOL Classes

Language and Citizenship Classes.

Our free Language and Citizenship classes have been a great success we are very pleased to have expanded them from one to three days per week on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

These support and improve the confidence of refugees and people arrived recently in the UK.

Wednesdays: 12 - 3pm

Supplementary and Mother Tongue Classes

Afghanistan Supplementary School for children

In January 2003, we opened the first free supplementary school for Afghanistani children in Lewisham. The school has been set up at the Albany Centre; Albany Centre have been extremely helpful, offering a space for our school, and giving us help and advice on setting and running the facility.

The classes we offer at the Albany include mother tongue language classes; literacy and numeracy support; and courses in Afghanistan's history and culture. The school has been well attended from the outset. We have a regular core of between 50 and 65 students every week, and they are all enjoying the fruits of the extra help they are getting, both in their formal education, and by maintaining their own links to their native culture.
